Summarise the way it has been addressed on the internet and provide a
bibliography of the various sources that you have used to understand this
movement of information via the Internet and the web.

50% of Internet search engine users only visit and find their information across the
first three results that appear. (Keyword Tech. 2006) Search engines are used as a tool to electronically search through millions of entries of data and determine in a
synchronised order which would be most viable and practical for the user.

Within the sub-industry Advertising, a question which was brought to attention and chosen to review was ‘Is the advertisement of alcoholic beverages at sporting events appealing to the wrong demographic?’ This question is being asked more frequently as underage drinking is becoming a social norm within society.

Twingine
is the partnership of two leading search engines; Yahoo and Google which
allows the user to type in their search words or phrase and compare the results in a split screen across the two search engines. Using simple search engine math on
Twingine, underage + drinking + Australia conclusions can be drawn about the
stronger search engine as Yahoo recovers 1 230 000 results in 0.27 seconds and
Google only recovers 101 000 results in 0.24 seconds. Many results appear, although they consist of blog-posts, communal chat rooms, news articles of different online media bases on the issue of the promotion of alcohol at family sporting events and how it can appeal to the incorrect and underage demographic.

“Clusty takes a ‘metasearch’ approach where several top search engines results are combined and generates an ordered list based on comparative ranking.” (Clusty. 2009) Whilst using the Clusty search engine the top ten results that were obtained were publications which were either supported by the government or an organisation. This form of results allowed the researcher to obtain valuable information which had been appropriately researched and published with the support of an established organisation or government body. This search engine effectively collects the results which are most likely to be used as the codes and practices as well as the ethics of promotion of alcohol and Government standards were easily obtained.

The advanced search engine, Google Scholar, found in particular, one article that
would be vital resources throughout the investigation. The University of Wollongong Research Paper ‘An Unhealthy Co-dependence: The Relationship Between Alcohol Sponsorship and Cricket in Australia’ by S.C. Jones where first hand research was conducted as to the promotion of different brands of alcoholic beverages at sporting events and how they were wrongly promoted to the public which rises many issues. This research can be used as a comparison and supporting reference for first hand investigations that would be carried out by the researcher.

“JSTOR operates as a research platform that deploys information technology and
tools to increase productivity and facilitate new forms of scholarship.” (JSTOR
Mission. 2009) The article which was found through JSTOR was written by Messner
and Montez
and provides the harsh reality statistics of the effects of alcohol at
sporting events especially towards the male gender. This database allows the
researcher to search and find scholarly articles which can be used as evidence to
support an argument throughout the investigation.
